Sim City 3000 was the 3rd installment of the popular Sim City series by Will Wright. As far as I can tell, it was mostly ignored. People tended to go from Sim City 2000 straight to Sim City 4, which was fully 3d. I remember early in the project they tried to make Sim City 3000 a fully 3d game, but the video hardware just wasn't there yet.
My job was QA, which means I tested the game and made sure it was bug free. I was the crash master. I would run the game through the debugger and try to get it to crash. Any crashes would be sent to the programmers. This was back when I was very junior in my programming abilities. The year was 1998 so I had only be programming for about a year. Still, the lead engineer seemed impressed that I made a game (Farmer Bill's Almond Farm) completely on my own.
Sim City will always have a special place in my heart and on my shelf because it was my first shipped product, the first job I had out of college, and my first professional game, even though I wasn't a programmer. I love you Sim City!
